The Prestigious Scholarship Program Office and the PSP Scholars Group were established at Appalachian State University in 2000. This office provides assistance in submitting competitive prestigious scholarships for all ASU students. The Prestigious Scholarship Program Office advises students on their drafts of applications, suggests interviewing strategies, and facilitates contacts with other faculty who can assist with the writing of project statements.

The Prestigious Scholarship Program (PSP) is designed to identify currently enrolled Appalachian undergraduate students with 30 or more hours of credit and GPAs of 3.85 or higher and prepare them to apply for competitive prestigious scholarships and to gain admission to nationally-recognized graduate programs. During the first year in the PSP, students will attend monthly meetings and be presented with information pertaining to the requirements and opportunities for submitting prestigious scholarship applications. Requirements for successful completion of the PSP includes writing a strong personal statement, selecting a faculty mentor, being actively involvement in scholarly activities, obtaining funding opportunities for scholarly activities, identifying faculty members who can write strong letters of recommendation, maintaining a current resume, and identifying appropriate prestigious scholarships.

This website is designed to provide information in attaining these goals.
