Appalachian State University Application Deadline: The second Wednesday of November.
The Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, one of the world's leading think tanks specializing in international affairs, conducts programs of research, discussion, publication and education in international relations and U.S. foreign policy. The Junior Fellows Program at the Carnegie Endowment is designed to provide a substantive work experience for students who have a serious career interest in the area of international affairs. Students will be hired to work at the Carnegie Endowment on a full-time basis for a period of one year. Carnegie Junior Fellows work as research assistants to the Endowment's senior associates. No one will be considered who has started graduate studies.

Eligibility
1. Applicants must be nominated by an official of their university.
2. Applications are accepted only from graduating college seniors or individuals who have graduated within the past academic year. No one will be considered who has started graduate studies.
3. Applicants should have completed a significant amount of course work in international affairs, political science, economics, history or Russian studies.
4. The selection process for the Junior Fellows Program is very competitive. Accordingly, applicants should be of high academic quality; typically a cumulative GPA of 3.6 or higher is required.

The application will include the following: 1-2 page resume or background statement (must include telephone number, address, extra-curricular activities and work experience).
1. Application Form (linked to above).
2. Two recommendations, at least one of which should be from a professor of the student's major department. The Prestigious Scholarship Office suggests applicants provide this letter to all those whom you ask to write recommendations.
3. Transcript of undergraduate records (transcript may be unofficial).
4. Essay (one page or less) on why the student would like to become a junior fellow.
5. An essay of no more than three typewritten, double-spaced pages on one of five topics. These topics are not necessarily indicative of the issues that Junior Fellows will research at the Carnegie Endowment, but they are intended to test skills in analysis, logic, and written expression. The essays should be thought pieces, not research papers.
