Departmental Honors Admission
There are 19 departments/colleges/programs that offer honors tracks for their majors. Check for requirements and procedures for graduating with departmental honors through the specific department of interest. Most departmental honors programs will require at least nine hours in departmental honors courses, including a three-hour senior honors thesis/project. Click here for thesis application forms and guidelines even if you are only completing departmental honors.Students may take part in more than one honors program at a time, but note that multiple themes may be required or much larger combined theses. Honors courses are usually offered by invitation only, but students interested in enrolling may make application to the departmental honors director to request admission to the track.
Note that all students matriculating in 2009 or later must complete an application for the Heltzer Honors Program and be accepted in order to become a member of the Heltzer Honors Program. In order to graduate with Honors from the Heltzer Honors Program, all requirements for University Honors must be completed. Invitation to and membership in a departmental honors program will not confer membership in the Heltzer Honors Program, and completion of department honors requirements will not constitute graduation with University Honors from the Heltzer Honors Program. However, students in the Heltzer Honors Program may also be in a departmental honors program if invited to do so. Students must complete the requirements of the Heltzer Honors Program independent of the departmental requirements, unless specific exemption is given by the Director of the Heltzer Honors Program.Departments offering Honors
