Chancellor's Scholars and Other Scholarships
Chancellor's Scholarships
The University offers a variety of competitive scholarships. Some of these — the most prestigious — are tied to Honors at Appalachian. Each year approximately 10-15 incoming students are selected for Chancellor's Scholarships that cover full institutional costs, including tuition, fees, standard housing, and a meal plan. A selection committee evaluates applications on the basis of the scholarship application, which requires information on academic performance and aptitude and a thoughtful student essay. Successful applicants display a background of superior academic ability based on active, involved learning, and a record of leadership, service, and creativity that are the hallmarks of an exceptional scholar. Applications are due by December 1; see the First Connections website for more information and to apply. Finalists will be asked for an on-campus interview during Scholars Weekend in February.
Recipients are required to enroll in at least one Honors course each semester for their first two years. Chancellor's Scholarships are renewable for up to eight semesters if the student maintains a 3.4 academic average. Chancellor's Scholarships are not tied to any major or college, and students may use their award to pursue approved, ASU-associated national and international programs offered through such agencies as Appalachian's Office International Education and Development.
