Welcome from Director
SPRING! Well, nearly so, anyway. There is still snow on the ground, but the daffodil tips are coming through and all the students are off on Spring Break, so the madness of May cannot be far off! The campus is quiet today, banked in drifting fog, but it will crack back to life when the students return, and then it’s full throttle to thesis as seniors put in the finishing touches and everyone else prepares for finals. We are finishing Honors advising for fall, and then we can look forward to the thesis defenses in April and helping our students finalize plans for summer travel courses (like Australia).
We have two big events coming up: the Honorum Laurus on Friday, May 7th, 6:30-8:00 in the Solarium, and the Prestigious Scholarships Program’s dinner for all Honors students (supper for 700+!), April 7th, 6-7:30 at Legends. Families, friends, and mentors will help us celebrate our graduating seniors in the HL, while the PSP dinner is a new event for students to learn more about the many national and international scholarships available. Dr. Dale Wheeler, the Director of PSP, has created many opportunities designed to prepare student to apply to graduate schools and these scholarships; just check out the PSP website to learn more about it.
If you are still trying to decide where to go next year, or just collecting information for the future, come up to Honors at APP and see what makes our mountain campus a destination for students who are going places. Be careful driving up to see us though, because once the blossoms come out along the Blue Ridge, it’s hard to keep your eyes on the road!
